We set off towards Yosemite after the coldest night sleep ever however the 6hr detour did bring a few surprises. Mammoth mountain and ski resort. A beautiful town in the mountains that is now on the ski list. We also passed some stunning lakes in the mountains.
As you wind you way up over the pass and head down into the valley a spectacular canyon just opens up. You don’t know where to look.El Capitan on one side Yosemite Falls and towering trees with the sunlight reflecting of the huge rock faces on the other. The entire area is amazing and no words can describe it, especially mine.
We timed our visit perfectly with snow still on top of the mountains with chilly nights but crystal clear blue sky days.
We set about just taking our time in seeing things as to rush would be a crime in this beautiful part of the world. With limited time and wanting to slow down just a little we didn’t have time to do any major hikes so we set ourselves a target of a couple of sunset hikes to catch the best light. Sentinel Dome to catch the best views of Half Dome and the valley floor and Vernall Falls. The views from Sentinel Dome were just amazing. We arrived about an hour before the sun went down and had the whole place to ourselves. It was kind or surreal.
