After a couple of long flights and a 3 hour stop over in Dubai I finally arrive in Roma. My hotel is much better than expected and is walking distance to a lot of the main attractions. My list visit to Rome was about 20 years ago I think, and for memory I didn’t love it. This time is different though. It is beautiful. I don’t remember it being so clean and it appears that a lot of the buildings have been restored. My jet lag started to kick in late in the afternoon so I took a nap. I set my alarm 6pm but is actually set for 6am. I sleep through until about 8pm. Big mistake. I wake up with a fright and now I feel terrible. Basically like I have a bad hang over without having enjoyed the vino.. I get up take a shower and wander the city streets. Most people in Italy don’t come out until late and the restaurants and cafes are full around 10pm.
Its a quick trip as I am in Rome less the 24hrs before I head off to Sardinia for the wedding. Its only about a 1hr flight and a 1 hour drive to Oristano where I am staying and where the wedding is.
Sardinia is very dry and very hot. Its about 38c when I arrive. I check in and catch up with a few people for dinner. Day 2 most people are meeting at the beach but I decided to go exploring as the thought of sitting on the beach in 38 degree heat doesn’t excite me. I head about an hour north to a town called Bosa. Its a great drive and reminds me a lot of the Tour de France race as you wind your way through tiny little towns. The main road runs right through these tiny towns and basically you are driving past the front door of peoples homes. If anyone steps out of their front door in a hurry they will end up on my bonnet. Its just amazing.
Day 3 – Wedding day. After watching Anthony getting pretty stressed with all the surrounding activities over the past couple of days the big day has finally arrived. It always amazes me how stressful weddings are. We hung out for a few hours before the wedding as its not until 5pm. When the time finally comes around to put our suits on it is about 38c and I am not looking forward to this suit thing. The local tradition is for everyone to meet at the grooms house and we all walk together to the brides house to collect her. From there its a short walk to the church. The ceremony last for about an hour and by this time all the boys are soaking wet with perspiration. I can’t wait to get outside as it must be 40c plus in the church with no breeze. Wedding done we head off to the reception to finally relax and cool down. It was great day.
